EAST RUTHERFORD − New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been cleared for contact and the expectation is that he will return to action this week against the Las Vegas Raiders, an individual with knowledge of the situation on Monday told NorthJersey.com, part of the USA TODAY Network.
Jones has missed the last three games due to a neck injury and he had not been cleared. He was examined by doctors on Sunday morning before the Giants' 13-10 overtime loss to the Jets and received the green light.
Jones has not taken any physical contact since the injury, so even though he received clearance before the game, the Giants were not going to play him against the Jets with such late notice under those circumstances.
Jones' comeback comes at a very challenging time for the Giants with Tyrod Taylor, who started all three games in his absence, leaving Sunday's game with a rib cage injury that led to an overnight hospital stay for further evaluation. Undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito finished the game for the Giants and did not attempt a pass until overtime.
